6 Lessons from Sean Branch’s “Money Murder & Mayhem”

Sean Branch is a black author from Washington D.C and a man that has utilised his 25 years sentence to make a greater man of himself. Branch has undertook several courses in engineering, carpentry and even trained to be a dental assistant, making him a very valuable member of society, now more than ever, with plenty to offer. He is able to contribute around the home physically and can now aid with it’s construction, as he has acquired a range of new skills that are timeless. Alongside these new skills the world is able to see the development of a more compassionate, honourable black man that lives to learn, as all great men and women do.

After reading Sean Branch’s highly anticipated first novel “Money, Murder & Mayhem”, I was blown away. Over the course of the book I found myself in every stage of an enthusiastic reader from discovering my interest in it early on, leading to rapid page turning. This then caused me to take breaks to savour the book, which led to me giving in the next morning and completing it. I was not satisfied upon completion. I was left in a whirlwind of emotions. I spent my morning reading with some laughter that soon turned to screaming by the end. I couldn’t believe how things had turned, the switch up was crazy, but it did leave a bit of hope for Part 2.

To celebrate the book without retelling the story of  “the quick rise of a young, ambitious hustler” I decided to list a few lessons I learnt from “Money Murder & Mayhem” that I feel are valuable for any and every babe xx

Authenticity is essential, there needs to be consistency within your character.

Branch teaches this lesson through his characters especially with the ones we watch grow from the beginning, to the end. Their authenticity makes them more reliable over time and in turn more deserving of respect. It may be surprising but “real recognises real” and that may be why realness is only rewarded by other authentically, real people. It takes confidence to be yourself in any capacity.

If you’re gonna steal something, make it your own.

I learnt this lesson from “Money Murder & Mayhem” when I read about the consequences of not doing so. Being distinctive is important and Branch has written a story based on true events, if you’re able to pick up on the inspiration you can also start to pick up on the parts written in that create the story.

Help can come from places you’d least expect.

I learnt this when a character shows their heart and in turn changes the stories fate. I believe it’s important to always remember a good heart is home to a lot of love… so much so that there may be enough love to save some for you!

True, cleaner revenge is long winded.

Revenge is long winded even in the books like “Money Murder & Mayhem” which I learnt as I read of characters waiting and making decisions on how to go about revenge, before doing so.

Patience makes a difference.

I was reminded of the importance of patience, from some characters lack of patience and how it altered how they went about their objective.

Trust your instincts, it can save you from the unimaginable.

Branch gives us countless examples of how much a character’s instinct can be a factor in whether their life is at risk, which of course is inevitable when the book is titled “Money Murder & Mayhem”.

Branch has prepared me for Storm Eunice with “Money Murder & Mayhem” as I’ve had to put on my skims velour cuffed lounge suit with my patent black timberland boots (lol) that I’ve worn twice and remember to B FLY IN THE STORM, literally!!! I choose to be courageous and walk whilst I can as “Money Murder & Mayhem” shows that even the strongest people get weak, but as a reader I was saddened to see them fall. I also know what’s most important is whether they get up after a fall.

I want to be better, gradually, which is partially thanks to Sean Branch. I am inspired by Branch to do something better, like writing for my blog, if that’s what it can do for me, imagine what it can do for you babe xxx
