Sam Akpro “Evenfall” Party

On Friday, March 28th, 2025, Sam Akpro hosted an intimate party at Bankrupt Store to celebrate his debut album “Evenfall” a body of work that captures your soul with sounds, reflecting Sam’s vision, vulnerability, and ambition. With the support of his incredible band, the project stands as a powerful statement from a true South East London creative.

From the moment I stepped into the dimly lit basement of Bankrupt Store on Brick Lane, the atmosphere was buzzing and felt raw, real, and rooted in community. Friends, fans, and fellow collaborators came together in a crowd of around 100 people, all drawn by the magnetic pull of Sam’s sound and the charm that defines him.

This wasn’t just a party, it was an experience that celebrated the dedication and craft Sam has poured into his career. The night featured live poetry, original artwork, and the debut screening of the “Evenfall” visuals, all directed by Pedro Takashi, whose signature style blends cool-toned colour palettes, clean edits, and hypnotic repetition to build a compelling visual narrative. One of my personal favourites is Disposition”, a playfully shot piece that uses looping imagery and rhythmic patterns to echo the album’s emotional layers. It was a cinematic experience that brought the tone of “Evenfall” vividly to life.

Sol, a film photographer, put together a the “Evenfall” zine featuring his own images of Sam, as well as fellow creatives to work with Sam including Beth Knight, Ethan&Tom, Pedro Takahshi; and Jackson Payne.  The “Evenfall” zine  provides a  glimpse into the process of creating the “Evenfall” album including studio Sessions, gigs, and even the creative process including the poem written by James Massiah.

The “Evenfall” poem by James Massiah is filled with relatable short tales that come together to tell a story of moving forward, adopting an honest, driven attitude, making the most of life and doing whatever is necessary to progress peacefully because there’s no other option. This poem was written for the “Evenfall” album and embodies Sam’s masterpiece perfectly, promoting unity by working together to move forward and create personal progression. Sam has done through collaboration with a range of creatives like musicians including the City Scrapers band, photographers, videographers and a poet.

Everyone had something to say about Sam Akpro’s undeniable charm and the spellbinding quality of his live performances. Many in the room had first fallen in love with Sam and The City Scrapers at shows across South London and further in venues like Peckham Audio, where their energy and connection with the crowd consistently left a lasting impression.

From my own experience, they have a way of transforming any space into an alternate universe, one shaped entirely by sound. Sam’s use of instrumentation, especially the guitar and drums, is nothing short of masterful. Each element feels like its own voice, telling individual stories, sending waves through the room that hit both the body and soul.

From the audio to the visuals, “Evenfall” comes together as a phenomenal debut. “Evenfall” is an immersive project that marks a moment in time for me, and for anyone who connects with its lyrics and lets the soundwaves move through them. It’s the kind of music that doesn’t just play, it surrounds you and pulls you in. It’s captivating in every sense (and so is Sam)!
