TAR BBQ
On 1st June 2025, TAR Street Sport kicked off the summer with the Tar BBQ at the Galleria Object on Brick Lane. They brought everything you need for a proper BBQ: good music, great food, free drinks, and unbeatable vibes. TAR Street Sport even handed out free merchandise, bandanas were available throughout the night, making sure every guest could feel apart of the Tar community. More exclusive pieces were also available at their pop-up shop.
Out in the lively garden, Indegno had a stand serving up a varied menu to suit all tastes, no matter your flavour preferences. Based in Shoreditch, Indegno is an award-winning street food company known for their miniature, soft Italian bread pieces. These could be topped with Nutella for a sweet option, or with tomato and their famous Parmesan cheese - a savoury choice with a smooth, creamy texture that stole the show. To compliment, Krush Puppies had slushies and juice drinks on sale so for under £10 you could get a bite to eat and even buy a drink if you didn’t want a free one.
To set the tone, a line-up of DJs spun the waviest anthems from every corner of the UK music scene: funky house, UK trap, rap, grime, and more, keeping the energy high all night. DJ Dan Peso curated the perfect sunny Sunday soundtrack, but it was the UK Funky House that stood out for me. Omari Lyseight brought the heat with a mix of rap, trap, and hip-hop, shining a light on the culture with a live urban cypher that blended grime flows over a variety of beats.
The mic was blessed by a solid roster of MCs:
- Kraze was the coldest, consistently delivering lyrics that ranged from motivational mantras about waking up blessed to heavy bars packed with clever disses. He had the crowd locked in.
- Vinch, known for his UK trap sound, had a smooth flow to match his clean fit.
- Jabz dropped his signature “Kit Kat” flow, full of metaphors that showcased his lyrical ability.
- Tylo $terling, the infamous skateboard enthusiast, impressed with a punchy 16 delivered at a tempo fast enough to rival JME (or at least give it a proper go)!
- Even Shizz McNaughty jumped on the mic, dropping some garage rhymes before heading to the decks. It was a proper joy to see everyone switch it up and have fun with it.
HD.XR’s work brought a powerful, physical energy to the gallery with his work. As a freerunner and photographer, he treats the city like a canvas and a playground, climbing cranes, rooftops, exploring new heights and angles to capture perspectives most of us will never see. Much like graffiti writers chasing high spots to tag, HD.XR pushes boundaries literally and creatively creating a sense of risk taking, rebellion, movement and perspective simultaneously. Through his lens, any city becomes a space to be reimagined, and experienced in a new, fulfilling way.
The TAR BBQ was documented by a number of talented photographers and videographers. Edward captured the raw energy of the cypher and the DJs up close, getting right into the heart of the action. Yomi focused on the crowd, snapping vibrant shots of people dancing, vibing, and living fully in the moment and Baldy was catching the same energy from different angles. Together, they eternalised the night with visuals (videos and images).
Every TAR Street Sport event becomes a hub bursting of talent and inclusivity. TAR consistently unite people through good vibes and shared passions. Their events spotlight emerging talent across music, art, skate culture, and more, offering a platform for creative expression. The TAR BBQ was filled with great energy, welcoming faces, and a vibrant atmosphere that embodied everything the brand stands for. It was a BBQ and a celebration of connection and culture in a chill environment.
